Every storm season, someone discovers that "outdoor rated" was doing a lot of work in their spec. A pole-mounted IP camera, a solar combiner box, a wash-down conveyor panel — the electronics survive, and the Ethernet port is what corrodes. A waterproof IP67 RJ45 jack is a sealed female panel-mount socket (母座) built to stop that. This guide explains what the IP code really promises, the one condition almost everyone gets wrong, and how to read VOOHU's sealed RJ45 socket specifications.
The two digits in an IP rating are independent. The first is solids, the second is liquids. Reading them as one "waterproofness score" is the most common specification error.

A sealed connector is not always the right answer, and it costs more than a standard jack. The question to ask is where the sealing boundary lives.
Sealing the port does not, by itself, protect the electronics. Outdoor Ethernet still needs surge and ESD coordination — a waterproof jack keeps water out, not lightning-induced transients. Pair it with the protection scheme in our RJ45 ESD & surge guide.
Treating an unmated port as sealed. The IP rating applies mated or capped. Unused outdoor ports need sealing caps, fitted.
Assuming a standard plug will seal an IP67 jack. The contacts mate (IEC 60603-7), but the seal comes from the shell, gasket and lock. You need the matching waterproof plug or sealed assembly.
Ignoring panel thickness. The socket is specified for a maximum panel thickness (3 mm or 4 mm). A thicker enclosure wall means the thread won't reach and the gasket won't compress — no seal.
Under-specifying temperature. A sealed black enclosure in direct sun runs far above ambient. Choose the -40~+85°C grade rather than -25~+60°C for exposed installations.
Forgetting PoE current and heat. Sealed bodies shed heat poorly. Check the rated current (up to 1.5 A per contact) and contact resistance against your PoE class.
Relying on the jack for surge protection. Waterproof is not surge-proof. Outdoor ports still need GDT/TVS coordination.
Under IEC 60529 the two digits are separate ratings. The first digit, 6, means dust-tight. The second, 7, means protected against temporary immersion (conventionally 1 m for 30 minutes). Crucially, an IP67 RJ45 jack only holds that rating when correctly mated and locked, or capped. An unmated, uncapped socket is not sealed.

The 8P8C contact interface still follows IEC 60603-7, so the electrical mating is standard. But the seal is created by the outer shell, gasket and locking mechanism, so you need the matching waterproof plug or a sealed cable assembly to actually achieve IP67. A bare standard plug will mate electrically but will not seal the port.
